Past Dinners with the Mystery Meet Social Dining Group

March 2011 Dinner: Back Bay Social Club

by Seth Resler

Chocolate Baked Mouse

Mystery Meet #9 took place at Back Bay Social Club, the new gastro-pub in Back Bay that quickly gained notoriety for its high-priced, high-quality burger. We headed over to the modern-day speakeasy for a special prix fixe menu with hand-picked beer pairings.

February 2011 Dinner: Flavor Tripping

by Seth Resler

Miracle Berry

It all started when a friend sent me a 2008 New York Times article about “flavor tripping.” You eat a Miracle Berry, which binds with your taste buds in a way that makes anything acidic taste very sweet. Lemons taste like lemonade, sour cream tastes like yogurt and vinegar tastes like cider.

January 2011 Dinner: Hell Night

by Seth Resler

We kicked of 2011 with our hottest Mystery Meet yet – literally! We journeyed to East Coast Grill in Inman Square for one of their legendary Hell Nights. After signing our souls away, we played Russian Roulette with spicy meatballs, gobbled up the Wings of Mass Destruction, and choked back tears as we sucked down Inner Beauty Hot Sauce. Most of us survived.

by Seth Resler

Mumbai Chopstix

At our final Mystery Meet of 2010, nearly 30 passionate foodies gathered to try the Indo-Chinese fusion restaurant Mumbai Chopstix. With beautiful decor, our own sitar player and a private room overlooking Newbury Street, we sat down for an adventurous meal from Chef Ranveer Brar.

November 2010 Dinner: Tavolo and Ashmont Grill

by Seth Resler

Squid Ink Ravioli

At Mystery Meet #5, our foodies were hosted by chef and owner Chris Douglass at his Dorchester pizza and pasta restaurant, Tavolo. Halfway through the meal a twist was revealed – as the diners learned that the remainder of their meal would be served three blocks down the street at Douglass’ other neighborhood restaurant, the Ashmont Grill.

October 2010 Dinner: Dining in the Dark

by Seth Resler

Dining in the Dark

Our fourth Mystery Meet was a first for Boston: Dining in the Dark. We brought this Swiss culinary tradition, in which diners eat blindfolded, to the Hampshire House in Beacon Hill. Foodies were treated to a unique culinary experience with live music and guided narration. We’ve got plenty of photos, so you can see everything that we didn’t!

September 2010 Dinner: The Russell House Tavern

by Seth Resler

Russell House Tavern

On September 14th, we held our third Mystery Meet at the Russell House Tavern, with a special four-course meal prepared by chef Michael Scelfo. The dinner featured a charcuterie flight, wild coho salmon, berkshire pork and a delcious chocolate cake. The exquisite meal was paired with a special cocktail flight. Check out the photos from our dining excursion in Harvard Square!

August 2010 Dinner: Myers + Chang

by Seth Resler

Joanne Chang

At our second Mystery Meet, we enjoyed a fantastic eight-dish meal, served family style and followed by an assortment of delicious desserts. Co-owner and chef Joanne Chang took some time out of her duties on the line to mingle with the foodies.

July 2010 Dinner: Ten Tables

by Seth Resler

We held our first ever Mystery Meet at Ten Tables in Cambridge. Twenty passionate foodies, including a number of food bloggers, ultimate Yelpers and representatives from local culinary colleges, joined us for a fantastic four-course meal.
